Setting Up the Integration:
API Token Setup
The API token must be generated from your Samsara account and set as Samsara Token in OpenRoad TMS, along with the Samsara Group ID.
The new token must be Global Write.
Truck Location Setup
To see a truck's location, copy the truck's Unit ID number:
Save the number as "Name" in Samsara:
HOS Status and Integration Requirements
NOTE: To see HOS statuses in OpenRoad TMS after the integration, all of the marked options in Samsara must be enabled.
Trucks: The Samsara name should be identical to the unit number in OpenRoad.
Trailers: The Samsara name should be
"Trailer 123"
or"trailer 123"
, where123
is a unit number identical to the one in OpenRoad.Driver HOS: It can be in the format:
"Number Firstname Lastname"
"Number - Firstname Lastname"
"Firstname Lastname"
The number, whether it appears first or second, must be an integer from 0–9 (e.g.,
"0D01"
or"D001"
).
All of these values are case-sensitive and must exactly match in Samsara and OpenRoad.
Resolving Frozen HOS Logs
If the Hours of Service (HOS) logs for a driver in OpenRoad appear frozen and unchanging despite the driver being active and on duty, it may indicate a duplicated driverName object within Samsara. This duplication means there are two drivers with the same OR driver ID but with different names.
Steps to Resolve:
Access your Samsara account and navigate to the Settings section.
From the Settings menu, select Drivers.
Within the Drivers section, locate the area for deactivated drivers.
Search for the duplicated driver using the OR driver ID number.
Once identified, reactivate the duplicated user account.
Edit the driver's name by removing the ID number. For example, if the name was previously
"1234 John Johnson"
, modify it to"John Johnson"
.After updating the profile, deactivate the user account again.
